Part I: Yarn-picking 101 - How To Choose The Right Yarn for a Project
Part I
Inspiration and ideas for your next knitting project can hit you in many different ways. Mostly my hands get that tingling feeling when I see a well done knit design on Instagram or Ravelry. The knitwear designer usually recommends in their knitting pattern a yarn, and sometimes even alternatives that have proven to be good options based on test knitter feedback. However, if you are not able to get your hands on that specific yarn, you will have to kick off the process of choosing an alternative yarn which is called yarn substitution.
Personally I noticed how this process has helped me to transition from a beginner to a more advanced knitter. It will uplift your creativity and the skill to experiment with a variety of different yarns and finishes.
Starting on the right foot
But before jumping right into the sea of endless yarn options, I’d like to take a step back and ask myself some important questions about the material, intend to use and personal preferences first.
Answering these questions sets the stage to informed decisions to ensure a finished product that will bring joy for many years to come.
